CHILDHOOD: "Dog" was my first spoken word. Animals seemed like music to me: each had a distinctly different melody. Now, PetSPEAK Portraits is fueled by this long-held belief: Each pet has a special story. PetSPEAK Portraits tells them in a special way. Photo above: Me With My First Dog!
EDUCATION: I earned a BFA in Graphic Design (and painting) from the School of Visual Arts. I moved into Manhattan at age 18, with $50 in cash and a scholarship... and about 100 truly awful part-time jobs to support myself. Art college was tremendously exciting and I eagerly soaked it up... but honesty, NYC was my greatest teacher. I'm of the mind art can't be "taught"... it either is inside you or isn't. When I left school my "education" really began as I became a working NYCartist.
WORK LIFE: I worked in NYC as a graphic designer, then art director. I created posters, packages, magazine spreads and branding programs. Simultaneously I launched a writing career and published a LOT of fiction (which won many fancy literary awards). Words and pictures, pictures and words... I love both. As I was always deeply driven to work on projects which also include my love of animals, I left the rest behind to create PetSPEAK Portraits, a perfect blend of WORDS, ART and ANIMALS!
